Upcoming September Events

Summer is nearing its end, but that doesn't mean the fun has to stop. During the month of September, there are several must see events in the Myrtle Beach area! On Saturday, September 6th from 7:00am - 2:00pm, South Carolina's largest garage sale will be held at the Convention Center for the 26th year. Put on your comfortable walking shoes, and go prepared to bargain hunt! Admission is free, while parking at the Convention Center is $3 per car.

Later in the month, the St. John's Greek Orthodox Church will host its 23rd annual Greek festival from September 25th-28th. This 4 day event will be held in the fellowship hall and on the church grounds. Located on the corner of Hwy 17 Bypass and 33rd Ave N, the fun will begin Thursday from 11:00am - 9:00pm. Friday & Saturday the festivities take place from 11:00am - 10:00pm, and the celebration will conclude on Sunday from noon until 7:00pm. Thousands come each year to enjoy mouth watering Greek foods - including gyros, roasted lamb, Greek salad, spanikopita (Greek spinach pie), and mousaka (eggplant). I'm personally looking forward to the assortment of Greek pastries and breads. Soft drinks, beer and Greek wines will also be available.

Amongst the vendor booths, there will be a coffee shop, gift shop, live Greek music, dancers and children's activities. In addition, there will be a raffle with a portion of the proceeds benefitting the Church and its charities. The festival will be fun for all ages, so be sure to mark your calendar.

After a fun celebration at the St. Johns Greek Orthodox Church, make plans on Sunday, September 28th to take part in The Market Common Triathlon.  With its unique format, The Market Common Triathlon will be offering something the entire family is sure to enjoy. The triathlon will include a 250 yard pool swim, 6 mile closed course bike race, and 1.5 mile closed course run. The Market Common Triathlon features back to back racing at one of the most beautiful venues in the area. If the standard distance isn't your speed, do half for a true super sprint distance. The short distance will consist of a 250 yard pool swim, a 6 mile closed course bike race and a 1.5 mile run. The youth distance will be a 150 yard lazy river swim, 3 mile closed course bike race, and a 0.75 mile run and will be held after the standard and short distance events. For registration information, visit the market commons website.  Online registration closes on September 25th at 10:00am and is limited to 400 registrants.

Participating in the triathlon, is sure to work up an appetite.  So, on the evening of September 28th at 5:00pm, head over to the Thompson Farm and Nursery on Bucksville Drive in Conway for the Farm to Table event that will include a dining experience like no other in the area.  Enjoy live bluegrass music while experiencing a six-course feast including wine & spirits tastings throughout the evening. Area chefs will put their skills to the test using locally grown & raised ingredients, meats and fresh seafood caught off our shores. What better way to welcome the fall?

There's plenty to look forward to this September!  So, make your reservations at The Caravelle now, so you can enjoy all that Myrtle Beach has to offer!
