The way we were
Linda Payne | Pawleys Island
I grew up, one of six children, in the 70's in Ohio . Every August we loaded up the car, drove 12 hours to South Carolina and spent two weeks at the Caravelle. Each year we met up with the same families that came down from PA, KY, Oh, NH and Michigan. We had our group of vacation friends that we kept up with throughout the year by writing letters (remember those). Each year we met back up as though we had never left. We swam in the ocean and in the pool beneath the bubble. We ate lunch at the snack shack and charged everything to our parents. Breakfast and dinner at the Santa Maria. Cruising the boulevard and the Magic Attic when we got older. They are memories and friendships I cherish to this day. My brother is travelling down next weekend from CT with his family and spending a week at the Caravelle. Although I live in Pawleys Island now, I think I am going to have to get a room next weekend and start some new family memories.
