Sierra’s Beach Trip
Diane Farr | Kodak
We have a 13 year old daughter named Sierra Luise that is disabled and she had never been to the beach, let alone a 7 hr drive in the car !! Sierra doesn't talk, so we never know what she is thinking. Amazingly, she did just fine on the drive over from Tennessee- we stopped a couple of times and she had all her favorite musical toys to keep her occupied. The first night we got there, we went straight over to get our toes in the sand and into the water. Sierra really didn't know what to think - you could tell she was puzzeled as to why her feet were sinking into the sand. She loves the breeze blowing thru her hair and that gave her big smiles. The next day we found a beach wheel chair that we could walk her down the strand with. She was having a great time and thank goodness for 50 SPF !! She is the only one that didn't get any sun while at the beach !! We were able to rent a umbrella at the Lifeguard stand at 77th and she enjoyed her time sitting as well as being in the ocean. I was so surprised that she enjoyed herself so much. She doesn't like being out of her routine, but she slept like a baby and was happy the entire time we were there. Can't wait till next time - School Starts on Wednesday !!
