Sandlapper Sojourn

Jeremy & Penny Cothran | Lexington

Every South Carolinian has a soft spot in their heart for Myrtle Beach. I grew up in Seneca, SC and my husband is a Columbia native. When I think back to all the youth group retreats and family vacations, there must be a million memories that we Sandlappers (South Carolinians) have of The Grand Strand. My fondest memory of course takes place at The Caravelle. My husband and I were fond of weekend getaways and this one was the best. Living in Columbia gives us equal access to the mountains and to the beach. This time we chose the beach thanks to some awesome rates at The Caravelle. When we arrived, we were greated with such warmth, it was like coming home (it IS home!). When we saw our room, we were in disbelief because the amenities far exceeded our expectations. We splashed around in the outdoor pool and canoodled in the indoor pool's whirlpool. We sun bathed on an overcast April day on the beach and got a little red. We strolled boardwalks and enjoyed what would be our last visit to The Pavilion before it was closed. We ate Italian Ice Cream, twice! We shopped in cheesy beach souvenir shops (The Gay Dolphin still makes me giggle). The last morning we enjoyed a hearty breakfast and packed up to leave, ensuring enough time to hit the outlet malls on the way home. All in all, it was a perfect South Carolina getaway.
