Our Family Retreat at the Caravelle

My father had passed away and my sisters and brothers and I decided that it was time for us to get together.  We had never had a family reunion and have all gotten older.  For the most part several of us had children and wanted to get together for our children to get the opportunity to spend time getting to know one another. One brother lives in Georgia and sister in Maryland.  The other of us live in Virginia.  We decided to plan a four day reunion.  The decision was made to stay at the Caravelle Resort where each family would rent a oceanview suite with rooms for the children and adults.  The Caravelle proved to be the best decision that we made as the amenities were great for the kids.  Each day we planned family activities to do together as well as individual time.  We found that the Caravell had pool activities during the afternoon for the kids which made the day even more enjoyable.  My older brother joined the kids at the pool and participated in a swim race.  This was a treat as his nephews and nieces did not know that he could swim.  He proved to be a fish in the water.  Having kitchens in each suite proved beneficial as we had contests as to which family could prepare the best breakfast buffet.  We did some eating!!! Each morning, a breakfast spread was prepaed.  We ate so much that we were too stuffed to eat lunch.  After breakfast, we planned to rest on the beach and would send someone out early each morning to reserve beach umbrellas for us to rest under.  The water was so relaxing and the kids played in the water and made sand castles until exhausted from the sun.  When it came time to leave, we all were teary eyed in doing so and vowed someday to return.  We encouraged our children to remember the fun they had and to stay in touch with one another as they grow older.  Family is so important and it is equally important to know your heritage.  Thanks to the Caravell, I have memories of this time to hold on to.
