Memories
Many Years, Many Memories
Sandra Haverkamp • Roslyn, PA
I was a high school student when my parents first brought me to The Caravelle and Myrtle Beach. I was not excited about going on a family vacation that year...but WOW! I changed my mind immediately upon arrival. After years of other vacation spots, this was the BEST!! And it started a lifetime of memories for me...and those I love. When I was first married (1987) I took my then husband each year until we divorced. Our first daughter was even conceived in Myrtle Beach. I still continued to vacation at The Caravelle, except now it was with my two young daughters. I was nervous the first few years driving them the 11 hours on my own but even the drive there was exciting because we knew what was waiting for us at your resort! And those long drives? They gave us countless hours of silly memories and wonderful conversations, we talked about everything...and had the BEST time, every year! During the divorce process I had come up with a "happy song" that I would play each time we were feeling blue or to celebrate a good moment (like every time we drove into Myrtle Beach to start our vacation). Well, one of those celebrations happened in 2009. I was remarried to a wonderful man, Frank, who also has two daughters. The six of us took our first family vacation together later in the summer of 2009...to The Caravelle of course!! As we crested the bridge in Myrtle Beach we played Sweet Home Alabama on the CD player...our happy song! (Can't you just picture it playing and all of us singing??) It was the perfect spot for us to truly blend our families for the first time. We shared some of our traditional spots and the six of us created new tradtions as well. Everyone had a great time and got along so well (remember...we are talking about 4 daughters who were then 21, 20, 18 and 16) and it could not have been a more amazing vacation. We heard stories about how when they have their own families some day they want to bring them as well. In the meantime the six of us will continue to vacation with you in Myrtle Beach. Not only because you are an amazing resort, not only because Myrtle Beach has so much to offer and not only because we can't get enough of your beaches. But because, without knowing it, you have been tied to all of my important memories and are a huge part of our happy "moments"..............so TURN IT UP..................
