Many Family Memories Created at Sea Mark Tower

Betty Swain • South Bound Brook, NJ

Wow! Our memories stem from 1988 to 2005. Thru four generations.

We were visiting South Port, SC in 1988 for a family reunion. We had been invited as guest for a day to the Caravelle Resort. We enjoyed ourselves so much that the entire family decided to return the following year (July, 1989)for our own vacation. Five families toataling thirteen people. Some stayed on the beach front and the rest of us stayed off the beach at the Sea Mark Tower.

The next year (August, 1990), my family decided to make it our vacation spot. So we invited another family of four to join us for the next two years. (Aug 1991-1992). During those years the Caravelle Resorts provided so much fun and entertainment for the whole family that it was not even necessary to get in the car. We had access to all properties. Our favorite feature was the Lazy river where my husband and I could relax while the children played games nearby in the pool. And for more privacy, we would go and enjoy our own pool and Jacuzzi at the Sea Mark Towers.

In 1994, we invited my sister and her fiancé and there 10 year old to join us. Well, they decided what a better time and place to make things official. So they got married in Horry County Courthouse. We were so excited to stand in for them. That year we all stayed on a beach from property (St. Clements)at the Caravelle. But the next year we went back to the Sea Mark Towers, because we love the extra space.

Each year we also chose to go to Myrtle Beach because of the many attractions in the area. It was very affordable for families, unlike Florida. You had mini golf, real golf (for my husband), amusement parks, and Ripley's Aquarium. Our favorite race track closed after all those years we found plenty of other places to have fun. There was also great shopping at Barefoot Landing (later Broadway at the Beach). Last but not least our most favored All-You-Can-Eat Calabashes. These were the great anniversary spots.

Some memories were not so pleasant. We took a small break in 2002. We were invited to Oak Island by my sister-in-law to join them for a vacation. The vacation took a bad turn with a tragic accident in the ocean. It was a great loss of a daughter, a mother, a wife, and a sister at age 43. Although this was not at Myrtle Beach it was still a little too close so we did not return to Myrtle Beach for a few years.

By the year 2004, there was quite growth in our family. We were now on our fourth generation of children. I now had grandchildren, ages 6, 4, 3, and 1 ½.. So we knew it was about time to introduce our four grand children to the Sea Mark Towers. We returned with my son, his family, and my daughter, who flew in a few days into the trip. This is when we enjoyed all the same attractions we have always enjoyed, plus discovered a lot of new ones.

Those are some of our fond memories of the Caravelle Resort at Myrtle Beach. “Our Sea Mark Tower.” For my husband and I, we will need to find a smaller room within the Caravelle Resorts, since he and I outgrew the Sea Mark Towers, and the family is on there own. Again thanks for the fond memories. The Swain’s—Ricky and Betty and Family…
