The Dunes Club in Myrtle Beach, SC
One of the most admired and respected clubs in the southeastern United States, The Dunes Golf & Beach Club was started by a group of Myrtle Beach dreamers. The first meeting was held on October 29th, 1947, and less than a year later the motivated assembly of peers managed to get a charter from the Secretary of the State of South Carolina.
Robert Trent Jones, one of the world’s greatest golf course architects, designed the layout for The Dunes, and did renovations (after many other upgrades over the years by others) in 1992. For example, he was the one who changed the regular old golf course greens to ones that were much easier to play on, and he adjusted the forms of six of the course’s holes to make the layout more welcoming and pleasant for players.
The Dunes has branched out over the years to create a great tennis section as well. One of its main features are the wonderful social and youth programs that are kept running year after year. The facility itself is beautiful, with six clay courts and two hard ones, and the club hosts two tournaments: The Adult Labor Day NTRP Open and the Waccamaw Cardiology Jr. Tournament. The children’s programs for kids ages 4-8 have helpful private lessons, and the packages that are set up for those a little older, ages 8-18, allow these young players to take part in the USA Tennis 123.
The Dunes Club is located at 9000 North Ocean Blvd, and, according to our Golf Department, you can even become a member for the day at the place that was voted 2012’s “Course of the Year” when you lodge at The Caravelle, a resort that helped to pioneer premium golf packages in Myrtle Beach, SC.
