REO Speedwagon at The House of Blues in March 2013
On March 1st 2013, the classic 1970’s rock group, REO Speedwagon, will be performing at House of Blues in North Myrtle Beach, SC. The doors will open at 8 p.m. and the actual show starts at 9 p.m.
The group’s legendary vocalist, Kevin Cronin, has been with them since 1972, but the band itself was formed in 1967. They still stand strong today, with Neal Doughty on the keyboard, Bryan Hitt as the drummer, lead guitar played by Dave Amato, and the bass handled by Bruce Hall. They have achieved feats in Rock & Roll that groups today can only dream of and idolize, like when their album, “Hi Fidelity”, stayed at the top of the charts in the #1 spot for 15 weeks.
The band itself was together for four whole years before they got signed in 1971. They first developed in Champaign, Illinois while they were in college, and, like most great bands, started out with the smallest of gigs, getting from place to place however they could. REO (who got their name from the successor to the light truck) was one of the original groups out of the hardworking Midwestern United States that paved the way for many other acts, like STYX and Kansas.
More recently (2007), REO Speedwagon teamed up with STYX on their single “Can’t Stop Rockin’”, and later went on the road with them and the well-known band 38 Special on a tour that was voted “The Most Creative Tour Package” by Pollstar. They also teamed up with Pat Benatar in 2010 for the popular “Love on the Run” tour, then hooked up with STYX again last year for the Midwest Rock and Roll Express tour, a tour they will re-ignite in the spring of 2013.
The House of Blues is located at 4640 Highway 17 in North Myrtle Beach, SC, about a ten minute drive from The Caravelle Resort. Enjoy the show!
