Baby Baby Baby , OH!

One part of my job at the Caravelle Resort is to provide as much information to our guests so they know what is going on around the property. I created a family friendly play list last summer for the iPod that is played around our pool deck and included Caravelle property infomercials.

I walk around the block long pool area many times through out my day part of quality assurance and I like to listen to the music to ensure that the quality is exceptional for the guests.

One day, the GM and I separately noticed a young girl floating on the tube in the lazy river and she didn’t display the normal overly excited energy that most kids her age do when indulging in the lazy river. She sat in the tube and just allowed the river’s current move her along, lap after lap after lap.

Suddenly, the music changed and the then hit song “Baby” by Justin Bieber started playing on the outdoor speakers. In an instant, this young girl threw her arms up over her head, began kicking her feet, and wiggling in the tube with enthusiastic glee. She then sang every verse along with Justin Bieber, “Baby, Baby, Babyyyy, OH”, and this most amazing transition caught the eye of both myself and the GM.

Later, the GM told me that this girl’s mother approached him, and explained how this little girl was grieving from the lost of her brother, the woman’s son and nothing has made her daughter happy for so long. They anticipated this family vacation for a very long time in hopes that it would give her daughter some enjoyment. The mother told my GM that her daughter has been incredibly happy since being at the Caravelle and our choice in music for the iPod made her daughter smile the smile she had missed for so long. She thanked the GM and he was moved so much by her story.

Each time I update the music for the iPod, I think of this little girl and I consider what each person who visits the Caravelle might find therapeutic, enjoyable and pleasing when lounging around the pool, getting their tunes on.
