3 Brave Breast Cancer Survivors
The Caravelle Resort proudly supports Breast Cancer awareness each October. The brave survivors from all over the country are an inspiration to us all.
Sonya Rose Atkinson is a terrific example of someone who lives with the disease but refuses to let it stop or slow down her life. In Women’s Health Magazine, this strong willed 40-year-old says:
“I’m climbing the highest mountains to survive, with many challenges along the way. I’m remaining strong and carrying on…Enlightened, rising above breast cancer, and seeing the bigger picture.”
There are even many well-known celebrities who have bravely stepped forward as breast cancer survivors to speak out in the hopes of bringing awareness to this widespread disease. Grammy Award Winning singer, Sheryl Crow went in for a routine mammogram back in 2006. When she found out that she had the disease, Crow chose to use her celebrity status for the good. She realized that many women who are over the age of 35 don’t get annual mammograms, and this is a key to early detection. So, she started campaigning to remind ladies in this age group of the importance of getting this done annually.
No matter where you live, everyone seems to know someone who has been affected by breast cancer. Evon Bellamy is an individual living right here on the Grand Strand who is battling breast cancer but not letting it beat them. “I live my life every day just like before anything ever happened,” says Evon Bellamy, a brave survivor who is a patient at Coastal Cancer Center here in Myrtle Beach. She gives a lot of credit to the center for her ongoing positive attitude in her video testimonial on their website. “The girls there are wonderful,” she says. “They are just like family.”
Breast Cancer is something that these three survivors face everyday. All of us here at the Caravelle Resort are inspired by their courageousness, and we are currently accepting donations at the front desk in an effort to raise awareness. Please join us in the fight, and wear your pink ribbons proudly during Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2013!
