Play Ball!

Our hometown professional baseball team is set to throw out their first pitch of the 2009 season with  Opening Day on April 9 and one of Myrtle Beach's best family entertainment values begins its 11th season at BBT Coastal Field.

To celebrate the beginning of the season, the Pelicans have all sorts of great entertainment on tap for the first week of the season, including an appearance by one of the owners of the Pelicans who is better known for his Hall of Fame caliber NFL Career, Jerome Bettis.

The Pelicans will have giveaways, special Easter activities and tributes during the course of the season opening week.  For more details, visit www.myrtlebeachpelicans.com and get yourself into the action!

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans will be welcoming future Hall of Famer and 300 game winner Tom Glavine to the pitcher's mound tonight as he makes a rehab start as he returns from injury and prepares to rejoin the Pelicans' big league parent club, the Atlanta Braves.

Glavine will mark the second appearance for the Pelicans by a National League all star pitcher this season after Mike Hampton made a start for Myrtle Beach in July.  This however, will be the first appearance for the Pelicans by a sure fire baseball Hall of Famer, and a sell out crowd is expected to be in attendance to witness this historic occasion.

The Pelicans are celebrating their 10th year in Myrtle Beach and have had quite a season to celebrate the anniversary.  Not only have they clinched a playoff berth by wrapping up the first half title, but they also hosted a spectacular all star game between the Carolina League and California League, which brought stars Vanna White, Pelicans investor Eddie George and the now notorious Roger Clemens among the record setting crowd.

As a sponsor of the Pelicans, we are proud to put our name behind such great family entertainment

More baseball excitement was in the air earlier this week in Myrtle Beach and at The Caravelle as the best of the Carolina League squared off against the best of the California League in a single A minor league baseball all star game at BB&T Coastal Field, the home park of our own Myrtle Beach Pelicans, affiliate of the Atlanta Braves.  The Caravelle was selected as the host resort of the event, and we were honored to play host to baseball's stars of tomorrow, as well as many of the coaches, staff and investors of our home town Pelicans.   There was quite a buzz started when it was discovered that one investor of the ownership group in particular was here with us - NFL great and Heisman Trophy winner, Eddie George.

The game was played this past Tuesday, and the Carolina League All Stars came out victorious with a 3-1 victory, that was highlighted by a late RBI single by Pelicans shortstop Brandon Hicks.  Most importantly, the Pelicans management and staff put on a jaw dropping, action packed event that amazed all of the fans and baseball officials in attendance.  With a BB&T Coastal Field record crowd of over 6500 fans in attendance, entertainment ranged from a special appearance and ceremonial first pitch thrown out by Vanna White, an incredible post game firework show, an appearance by super-mascot Reggy, and of course top level baseball.

This was truly a thrilling event to be a part of, and we look forward to watching the Pelicans in the second half of the season as they pursue the Carolina League crown!
