The May issue of Golf Digest has been released and Myrtle Beach has once again showed why so many call our area "The Golf Capital of the World" by having seven courses named to "America's Top 100 Greatest Public Golf Courses".  Golf Digest produces this list every two years and Myrtle Beach continually dominates the rankings.  For a comparison  of how impressive it is to have 7 courses ranked within a 42 mile span, the entire state of California has 9 courses on the list while Florida had only four courses make the list throughout the whole state.

The courses to receive this great honor are: The Heritage Club (33), The Dunes Golf and Beach Club (38), Tidewater (41), Caledonia Golf and Fish Club (66), Grande Dunes Resort Course (77), Fazio Course at Barefoot (96) and Dye Club at Barefoot (99).  Not only is The Caravelle a member to the prestigious Dunes Club, but we are also partners with all seven courses on the list and our golf director can arrange tee times for you on any of these great layouts.  Oh, and there just happen to be another 95 or so other great courses that we can arrange tee times for you.

To reserve your times, contact our golf director at golf@thecaravelle.com or by calling 800-507-9145.

We are excited that our third annual Caravelle Cup golf tournament to benefit The First Tee of Myrtle Beach will take place in less than three weeks, running from March 5 - March 8.  After two successful events that have raised in excess of $2500 for The First Tee, our third year offers an exciting addition to the event.  Participants will once again be set in two man teams, as we hold the first round in a Texas Scramble format at Arrowhead Country Club and this year the second round will be a best ball format at the famous Dunes Golf and Beach Club, recently ranked as the 28th best public course in the United States by Golf Digest.

We will have a welcome pairing party on Thursday, March 5 for all participants, as well as our fundraiser party on March 6 for all involved.  Both events will feature complimentary beverages and heavy hors d'oeurves and a lot of fun for all.  Saturday will wrap up the weekend with a post round awards reception.

Packages for the tournament are surprisingly affordable.  Player packages including both rounds of golf and entrance to all three parties is $279 for one person, or $500 per twosome.  Accommodations packages start at only $399, and include three nights accommodations and daily buffet breakfast.

The bell is ringing for Round 2!

Former World Heavyweight Boxing Champion, James "Bonecrusher" Smith is hosting his second annual Champion For Kids Scholarship Golf Classic on December 7. The event will provide scholarships to deserving students at Waccamaw High School.  As the first World Heavyweight Champion with a college degree, Bonecrusher has been a great promoter and fundraiser for education throughout the Carolinas.

We are proud to announce that for both years of the tournament, Bonecrusher has selected The Caravelle Resort as the host accommodations for the event.

The golf tournament will be held at Myrtlewood Golf Club with breakfast and registration at 8 am, followed by a 9 am tee off.  Celebrities in attendance will include baseball Hall of Famer Lou Brock, former NFL players Keith Williams and Leonard Black, golf professional and one club world record holder Thad Daber and others.

All participants are invited to the Hard Rock Cafe on Saturday, December 6 for the tournament pairings party.

The cost of $100 per golfer for the event is surprisingly affordable for such a high profile event.  For more details on how to enter, visit Bonecrusher's Champion For Kids web site.
Myrtle Beach Golf Instruction.jpgWhether you're looking to learn the game of golf from square one or you're looking to shave some strokes off of your handicap, there's no better way to get full enjoyment out of the game of golf than to get lessons from a PGA Teaching Professional.  And as the widely recognized "Golf Capital of the World", Myrtle Beach has plenty of great teaching professionals that can help you improve your game.  Well two golf schools in Myrtle Beach have now been recognized as two of the Top 25 Golf Schools in America by Golf Magazine.

The Classic Swing Golf School at Legends Golf Club and the Ritson-Sole Golf School at Pawley's Plantation were both honored in this prestigious list in the November issue of Golf Magazine.  Both golf schools have actually been recognized for a number of years on this list, and offer what is by the best value of any of the other 25 schools on the list.

Of course with such a great honor for these two schools, we would be remiss if we didn't mention that Myrtle Beach has many other great places to learn to improve your golf swing.  The Grande Dunes offers instruction from Brad Redding, who is a Golf Magazine Top 100 Teacher in America.  Nick Bradley, who is the swing teacher of world ranked top 10 player Justin Rose, calls the Barefoot Golf Club his home for his Myrtle Beach golf school.

We are excited to announce that The Caravelle has been selected as a host resort for a wonderful event that has been put together by the New Jersey Firemen's Benevolent Association and our air partner, Myrtle Beach Direct Air, the FLASH  (Firemen's Land And Sea Holiday) Golf and Fishing Fundraiser with proceeds going to the families of the "Charleston 9", a group of courageous men who lost their lives while fighting a fire on June 18, 2007.

This event, the first national fundraiser put on by the NJFMBA, will be held November 12 -16 and will feature golf at area golf courses including Blackmoor, Arrowhead, Wild Wing, Caledonia, True Blue and others, and deep sea fishing trips for the non golfers.  Organized events will be hosted by Martin's PGA Tour SuperStore and 2001 Nightclub as part of the package.

While attendance for this inaugural event is expected at anywhere from 500 - 1000 participants comprised of firefighters and friends from all over the country, the event is open to the public to assist in raising funds for this great cause.  For more details on the event please visit the FMBA FLASH event web site or call Jo Ann Fusco at (732) 499-9250.
