Fun Ways to Spend a Rare Rainy Day

Mother Nature can be unpredictable at times, especially here at the beach ... but not to worry!  The Myrtle Beach area has plenty of indoor activities to keep the whole family busy on rainy days.

If you are visiting with family and have young kids, check out the exhibits at the Children's Museum of South Carolina or head to Wonderworks, the upside down museum at Broadway at the Beach.  Both venues are fun and educational! Located at 2204 N. Oak Street, the Children's Museum has many great exhibits, including a hurricane simulator, fossil hunt, and gem mine.  Admission is $8.00 per person, and children 23 months and younger are free.  Wonderworks is just a short drive south of The Caravelle at Broadway at the Beach.  At Wonderworks, educational exhibits, a 6D Extreme Motion Ride, Ropes Course, and Laser Tag are sure to bring a smile to your kid's face.  General admission is $14.99 for kids ages 4-12 and $23.99 for adults.

No matter the age, your entire family is sure to have a blast at Ripley's Aquarium, also located at Broadway at the Beach.  If the weather is bad and you can't enjoy the ocean, you can at least have fun seeing and learning about the many different sea creatures at Ripley's Aquarium. You can even pet the sting rays!  Save money on tickets when you book online at After your trip to the Aquarium, head over to Ultimate California Pizza Game Zone on Lake Arrowhead Road for great food and arcade fun.  How many prizes can you win?

For the adults, antique shopping is a great way to spend the day! Check out the Nostalgia City & Museum on South Kings Hwy or Fox & Hounds Antiques Mall off Hwy 501.  If "antiquing" isn't your thing, the Myrtle Beach Indoor Shooting Range & Civil War Museum is located at 4857 Hwy 17 S. Bypass.  Admission to the museum is $4.00 for adults, $3.00 for seniors and veterans or $2.00 for students.  Or you can always plan a trip to the South Carolina Hall of Fame at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. Located at 21st Ave. N. and Oak Street, the purpose of the SC Hall of Fame is to recognize and honor both contemporary and past citizens who have made significant contributions to South Carolina's heritage and progress.

For those of you who just prefer to stay put on a rainy day, The Caravelle Resort has much to offer.  Get fit and stay active in our on-site Fitness Center, check out our amazing arcade and start a game of pool, hang out in Liquids Lounge and watch sports on one of our many TV's, or relax in our indoor pool & jacuzzi tub on the 7th floor.  If you prefer to stay curled up in bed, watch a movie on the in-room flat screen televisions or catch up on some sleep ... after all vacation is about relaxing!
