Dairy Queen in Myrtle Beach
When you think of Dairy Queen, what’s the first food to come to mind? Is it the delicious Ice Cream, the tasty Cakes, or the mouthwatering Food Menu?
When I was a kid, I used to always go to Dairy Queen for hot dogs and ice cream (I was just a little guy back then, so I couldn’t handle all the big stuff on the menu just yet). But, when I got a little older, I upgraded my meals to things like the Grilled Chicken Sandwiches and Flame Thrower Grill Burgers. Still, sometimes for old time sake, I’ll just get a little hot dog with a small kids cone and think back to how long I’ve been eating there.
My first trip to DQ was in the 1980’s, but they were in business long before. According to “About Us: An Edible DQ Encyclopedia”, they got started in 1940 … 73 years ago. That’s my age times two and then some! The first store opened up in Joliet, Illinois, a city that’s about an hour drive southwest of Chicago. DQ has restaurants all over the place nowadays, within the United States of America and beyond. For example, according to the article, the first store opened in Canada in 1953, and the first one in Japan in 1972. Seven years later, one opened in the Middle East, and by 1991 there was even a store in Mexico!
No matter where you’re from or what your taste buds are craving, you’ll always find something you’ll like at DQ. The cakes (like the Oreo Cookie or the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup cake) are awesome, and so are the smoothies and drinks (they have plenty to choose from, but try my favorite, the Mocha Moolatte…it’s awesome!) Dairy Queen is just a few miles south of The Caravelle Resort at 2103 S. Kings Hwy. Don’t forget to show the cashier your VMB Benefits Card, and you’ll get 50 cents off a Blizzard or OJ Smoothie. Enjoy!
