2013’s Challenging Surf & Turf Triathlon
Previously called the Barefoot Triathlon, the newly named Surf & Turf Triathlon begins at 7:00 am on September 14, 2013. Registration is open until the 11th, so if you think you have what it takes to compete in the swim, bike and run, sign up here!
According to the events’ website, the triathlon is open only to the first 400 registrations. While many have signed up, there’s room for plenty more. The minimum age to register is 15, and race participants will have four hours to complete the triathlon.
The whole thing starts with a 1500 meter swim. You may be thinking, “Okay, that’s not bad…a few times up and down the pool from wall to wall. Piece of cake.” But I’ve got news for ya - this swim will be in the Atlantic Ocean! This brings swimming 1500 meters to a whole new level!
After exiting the water, the triathletes will move onto bicycling up the Myrtle Beach strip. Leg strength is a must for pedaling after all of that swimming, because it’s going to be one heck of a challenge biking the full distance in this 26 miles race.
After surviving the swim and enduring the bike ride, there’s only one event left – the 10k run. Only the fittest of the fit will make it this far, but whether someone finishes first or last, they are sure to have accomplished a feat that only a handful of people can say they’ve done!
The Surf &Turf Triathlon is a USA Triathlon sanctioned event that will donate the proceeds to the SADS (Sudden Arrhythmia Death Syndromes) Foundation. Their website is www.sads.org.
